Are you up to date with your portable electrical appliance testing?

At all places of employment, it is a legal requirement that portable electrical appliances should be inspected and tested for electrical safety on a regular basis. We are based on the Isle of Wight. Unlike large electrical contractors, we specialise in portable electrical appliance testing only. No job is too small. Our fees start at £20 for inspecting and testing up to 20 items. After that, we charge a flat fee of £1 per item. Detachable IEC leads are inspected and tested separately. Any defective plugs or fuses are replaced free of charge. If you know how many items you require to be tested then you know the cost. There are no hidden extras!

The easiest way to comply with the regulations is to do three things.

1. Perform in-service inspection and testing, which consists of three activities:

User checks
Formal visual inspections (without tests)
Combined inspection and testing

2. Performing maintenance or, if necessary, replacing defective items of equipment

3. Keeping up-to-date records that can be a means of showing compliance

User checks (prior to an item of equipment being used) can easily be carried out by the user but formal visual inspection and testing needs to be carried out and documented by someone who is suitably qualified and experienced who also has the test instrumentation to carry out the formal testing. Vectis PAT Testing Services can help you with this. For a small fee per appliance, our test engineer will, where necessary, visually check plugs and leads as well as the appliance for defects before carrying out electrical testing. All results are formally
recorded together with a sticker put on the appliance.
